Obituary of Walter D. Evans

Leicester – Walter D. “Doug” Evans, age 78, of Leicester, died Friday, October 19, 2018. Walter was born February 7, 1940 in Buncombe County to Stokley and Mary Lou Head Evans; he was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He became disabled while serving in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Walter later worked as a dispatcher with the Asheville Police Department from 1976 until the mid-80s. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Evans. Surviving are his wife of 40 plus years, Latona Hensley Evans; son, Donald “Don” Evans and wife Adrienne of Cary, NC; daughter, Ashley Luhm and husband Justin; step-daughter, Melissa Evans; brother, Delane Evans and wife Carolyn; granddaughter, Charlotte; step-grandchildren, Leighanna and Nicholas. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, October 22, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverend Wesley Pike will officiate. Burial will follow in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2018 at the funeral home.
