Obituary of Charles N. Sawyer

ASHEVILLE / MARSHALL – Charles N. Sawyer, age 97, of Asheville, formerly of Marshall, died Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Madison Health and Rehabilitation. Mr. Sawyer was born June 18, 1921 in Madison County to the late Claude M. and Effie White Sawyer. He was a resident of Madison County for most of his life. Charles was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union and worked for A & P grocery. He served in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and installed Norden Bomb sights. Charles was a member of Victory Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Ball Sawyer who died in 2008. Surviving are his daughter, Janice Rayfield and husband Bill Coonan of Spring, TX; son, David Sawyer and wife Angela of Weaverville; grandchildren, Mary Ely, Joshua Sawyer and Rachael Sawyer; and two great grandchildren, Darren and Ainslie. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverend Ben Whitmire will officiate. Burial will be private in Tillery Cemetery, Marshall. The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
