Obituary of James Monroe Styles

MARS HILL – James Monroe Styles, of Mars Hill, died Friday, November 30, 2018. Mr. Styles was in born Yancey County to the late Tom and Pansy Styles; he was a resident of Weaverville since 1983; prior to that he lived in Harper Woods, MI for 34 years. James retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1983 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Emory Styles and a brother, Leonard Styles. Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Gladys Ward; son, Jimmy Styles and wife Yvonne; sister, Lois Byrd; grandchildren, Joshua Styles and wife Charlotte, and Jessica Styles; great grandchildren, Cara, Anna and Elise Styles. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2018 in Ivy Hill Baptist Church, Weaverville. Reverends Worth Emory, Kevin McMillian, and his grandson Joshua Styles will officiate. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, Weaverville. The family will receive friends 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville.
