Obituary of Jean Redmon Mullinax

WEAVERVILLE– Jean Redmon Mullinax, age 76, of Weaverville died Sunday, January 27, 2019.

Jean was born April 8, 1942 in Buncombe County to the late Liston J. & Frances McCurry Redmon; she lived all of her life in Buncombe County. She was a Southern-Bell phone operator, serving as a supervisor. Later she became a Special Education teacher’s assistant in Buncombe County schools. Jean also worked at Wright’s Insurance Agency and Burnette’s Florist. A life-long member of Salem United Methodist Church; she played in the Bell Choir and sang in the choir; also serving as the church historian. Jean loved genealogy, Weaverville Music Study Club, yard sales; but most of all she loved her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Virginia “Ginger” Redmon and Linda Haney.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, David Mullinax; daughter, Dana Mullinax of the home; sons, Darren Mullinax and wife Brandi and Duane Mullinax all of Weaverville; sister, Brenda Pike of Weaverville; brother-in-law, Rev. Dean Haney of Alexander and close family friend, Steve Newsome; grandchildren, Brittany, Gage and Megan.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 2, 2019 in Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Kent Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sheppard Cemetery, Weaverville.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2019 at West Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral.

At other times the family will be at the residence.
