Obituary of Betty Cook Owenby

WEAVERVILLE– Betty Cook Owenby, age 91, of the Reems Creek Community went to her heavenly home Saturday, March 21, 2020 just 79 days short of her 92nd birthday. Betty was born June 9, 1928 in Buncombe County to the late Harley and Bonnie Ray Cook; she had lived all of her life in Buncombe County. She retired from Square D after 13 years. Betty loved to work in her flowers and garden. She loved spending time with her Cook family, her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Pine Burr Park Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Owenby; sisters, Kate Angel, Grace Holcombe, Justine Nesbitt, Mary Dean Davis, Alice Zikewich and brothers, Duain and Edwin Cook. Surviving are her daughter, Judy Rice and husband Phil; son, Randy Penland and wife Ruth all of Weaverville; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville. Reverend Allen Roberts will officiate. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date to be announced.
