Obituary of Janis Blankenship Turner

Janis Blankenship Turner, 74, of Mebane died Tuesday July 7, 2020 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Buncombe County and now a current resident of Mebane, a 1968 Graduate of Western Carolina University, retired from Welcome Finance. In her early years she was a member of the Flat Creek Baptist Church. She is now a member of the First Baptist Church of Mebane where she was active in the Choir, Sunday School and missions. Janis was a very sweet loving wife, mother and grandmother. Janis was very caring and always put others first! She loved going to Charlotte and watching her grandkids play their sports and other activities. She was an avid Tar Heel basketball fan. She was an exceptional athlete in school and was in line to play college basketball until she broke her leg her senior year in High School. She loved God, her family, her church and her sports as well as being involved with mission work. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Irene Clinton Blankenship and sister, Martha Blankenship. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James W. (Jim) Turner; Son, Barry J. Turner and wife, Corrine; grandson, Carson Wade Turner; granddaughters, Kate, Channing and Quinlyn Turner; brother, Malcolm W. Blankenship and wife Vhonda. A memorial service to celebrate her life was held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, July 14 at the First Baptist Church in Mebane by Pastor Sammy Ballard, Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
