We were saddened to hear of Martha Ann's death. We remember seeing your family at Brevard dress rehearsals - a good way to introduce children to music. Although our children usually saw Harold, sometimes they would see Martha Ann. I also have a vague recollection of her giving us a tour of your home when my sister was thinking of building a log house. We remember her as a kind and lovely lady.

Dear Claxton Family,
We are so sorry for your loss and certainly remember all the good times of being neighbors in Weaverville. We always appreciated you visiting Riddle's Exxon as our grandparents loved all of you and so did Dad. Becky it was always great playing Volleyball with you and seeing the family at games. Your Mom was always so kind. We know she is celebrating in heaven and smiling at each of you as you carry on the family traditions. We are sending lots of prayers and good thoughts to you in this difficult time.
Much love,
Melanie Riddle Davis and family

Martha Ann was one of the kindest, most thoughtful and endearing people I have ever had the pleasure to know. She and Porter welcomed me to Asheville and the Claxton Farm family as a new young PA in 1986. She gave me my first pet when she insisted I take a kitten home with me on my first visit to the farm. Over the years she helped my wife Kim and I make many wonderful memories with our growing young family. Her amazingly positive attitude and kindness continue to inspire me today. I know there must be a special place for Martha Ann in heaven.

A very special lady. She took such personal care of her patients. Our daughter and son have fond memories of their visits over the years and the interest she showed in their work growing up on our farm business. She was always very proud of their accomplishments. A legacy to her fine family who she always was extremely proud. Praying for the family. Charles & Betty Henn

My family has such wonderful memories of Dr. Claxton. A fellow Duke classmate told us about her when we moved to Asheville in 1979. As our pediatrician for Sara and Molly, she was supportive, kind, and unequaled! We loved her. And my daughters have fond memories of visiting Claxton Farms with their dad. Thank you for sharing her with us. Her spirit will always be alive in the wonderful life she has lived. She will be missed.

Dr. Claxton was a true lady. She was kind and considerate, treating everyone with graciousness. Doug was in class with my son, Steven, when I met Dr. Claxton. I only met her a few times through school functions but she always had a smile for everyone. I really knew her through her son. Doug was a good kid, a scholarly fellow and "just one of the guys". No airs about him. Children represent their parents. How blessed for the family to have a mother for a role model! And for you, Dr. Porter Claxton, how blessed you were to have such a wonderful life partner! Praying that God will continue to bless all of the family and comfort you during this time.

Martha Claxton MD was very kind & inspiring to me as Pediatrician in nearby Madison County, NC.
Her life as a mother, a nature enthusiast, and a Pediatrician gave me more confidence in the opportunity to live and practice in a rural county. Martha and Mary Helen McConnell MD were great supporters of their young female colleagues. We are deeply indebted to the graciousness, generosity, and big hearted tradition of women like Martha Claxton! She will be missed but not forgotten. Our hero!

What an amazing woman and an amazing legacy! Dr. Claxton saw both of our girls at Children's Medical Center. She loved our girls and took great care of them (and sometimes she had to take care of the mamas too, with whom she was equally outstanding)!
To all of her children and grandchildren who I known for many years through school, work and the neighborhood: I am thinking of you and lifting you up in prayer. I can't imagine what a huge hole this has left in your heart, but we all know she is looking down on each of you with her sweet, loving smile in awe of how you have all taken such good care of her through all of this. I know how much you all meant to her!
I loved your mama so much! God bless you all!

Martha was such a loving and nurturing pediatrician . She guided us through our first two and just before retiring allowed our recently multi diagnosed son to “ annoint “ her as she said for the first time ever. May our Lord and Saviour give you all peace and rest and favor this most difficult season of grieving ... yet she is now restored and made whole by the GOD who created her and allowed her and your family to serve so many families in WNC.. May you all be safe and well. What a precious smile she had whenever we brought our kids in or we consulted professionally. Glad to love her and your family

Especially to Calvin, sorry to hear of your loss, and that I haven't reestablished contact. I clearly remember a night when some CBC friends, including Kim Clifton and I (don't remember who else) were hanging out together during Christmas break and ended up at your place after bowling and playing games (Trivial Pursuit, Room) until early morning. Your parents made us all feel welcome. I know your mom will be missed.

Martha Ann was our children's doctor and a neighbor and friend. She was a woman of great ideas but truly listened to other people. It was a pleasure to work with her on community projects and she loved this valley very much. She was funny, caring and knowledgeable about many things. She was quick to welcome newcomers and not neglect the elders here. She will be sorely missed. Our sympathies to Porter and her children and grandchildren.

Dr. Martha saved my life when I was 22years old, a first time Mom with an EXTREMELY colicky baby. She prescribed the right medication, guided me and gave me advice I repeat to this day. That baby is 34 years old and she considers Martha Claxton a Saint. We were blessed to have not only her service as a Pediatrician but member of the community because she was kind. Really kind. GOD bless you all Claxton family.

The first time I met her was when James Claxton and my mom got married. I was nervous to start a new life and begin school in a new place, but Marty Ann was the first person of his family I got to talk to. She had pink hair for spay painting the fence red. We both laughed and started a friendship I'll never forget. I'll miss you.
