Obituary of James Gordon VanStory

WEAVERVILLE– James Gordon “Jim” VanStory, age 87, of Weaverville died Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2020.

 

Jim was born June 9, 1933 in Cumberland County, NC to the late William Alfred VanStory and Mary Cooper VanStory. He was a resident of Charleston, SC a number of years and had resided in Weaverville for the past 65 years. Jim enjoyed buying real estate, and was an antique collector and appraiser. He loved history, enjoyed fishing, hiking and collecting arrowheads. A former member of the North Buncombe Kiwanis Club. He was very philanthropic; giving to Billy Graham Ministries, St. Jude, Ralph Sexton Ministries, Wounded Warriors and many others.

 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Alfred VanStory, II and Edward VanStory, Sr.

 

Surviving is his partner for over 40 years, Anna Ramsey; Anna’s daughter, Ann Washabaugh, who he affectionately called Krissy “my little girl”; nieces, Amy Bowers and husband Bob and Mary VanStory Carribello; nephews, Edward VanStory and wife Leta and Gordon VanStory.

 

His memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Reverend Louis Grant and Mr. Randy Edmonds will officiate. Burial will happen at a later date in Middle Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, Mars Hill.

 

Flowers are acceptable and appreciated or Jim would be delighted for contributions to be made in his name to Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church, PO Box 1532, Weaverville, NC 28787.

 

The family would like to thank Dr. Honeycutt, with a special thank you to    nurse Samantha Riddle, and other staff with Four Seasons Hospice-Palliative Care for their compassion and care.
