Obituary of John David Head

WEAVERVILLE– John David Head went home to be with his Lord on December 11, 2020, after a lengthy illness.

The eldest son of Rev. James Byron Head and Dora Lee Thompson, John showed an early talent for music. He graduated from Howard College as a licensed music minister, and supported his family as a regional office furniture sales representative, working from his home base in MS.

He married Bobbie Head in 1999, after his youngest child was grown, and spent the last years of his professional life focused on Christian ministries in CA and OH. He retired in NC, where he was an active choir member at Lake Hills Church for as long as his health permitted. He was also an excellent tenor, a skilled carpenter, a longtime NASCAR fan, an early adopter of personal computers, and an avid reader.

John is predeceased by his parents, by his eldest son David Lawrence Head of San Diego, CA, and by grandson James David Head of Brandon, MS.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie; siblings Bob (Sharyn) Head of Tuscumbia, AL, and Ruth (Earl) Thompson of Baker, FL; his loving children and stepchildren, Linda Hambright and Dee (Mike) Vaughan of Birmingham, AL; Debbie (Dennis) Hardy of Tampa, FL; Jim (Kathy) Head of Brandon, MS; Tom (Deirdre) Head of Jackson, MS; Nancy (Johan) Bentley of Weaverville, NC; David (Ruth) Haynes of Ventura, CA; and Amanda (James) Storlie of Waterford, CA;  plus 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and MANY nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held at  2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, Weaverville.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday December 18, 2020 at the funeral home.

Per the NC Governor, masks are required.  Those who choose, may listen to the service on their car radio on FM 87.7, while in the parking lot of the funeral home.
