Obituary of Nora Mae Bowlin Ballard

WEAVERVILLE – Nora Mae Bowlin Ballard, of Reems Creek, age 96, went to be with God and her other family members in heaven on January 15, 2021.  “Who can find a virtuous woman, for her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10.

Mrs. Ballard was born May 11, 1924 in Wilkes County, North Carolina to the late John David and Queenie Coffey Bowlin.  Mae was a gentle woman of deep faith, knowing God, her Savior.  She was a friend, a teacher, a caregiver.  She loved children.  She was a meticulous housekeeper, and a loving caregiver.  She would come to you as quickly as possible if she could help as a babysitter or attend to the sick.

Mae loved to make a garden and kept it free of weeds.  Harvesting what she grew was a labor of love for her family.  She also enjoyed cooking what she grew, and offered to feed you at any time of the day that you visited.  She was a loving wife, mother, and mamaw.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Blaine Ballard who died in 1998; two brothers, Lonnie and Alton Bowlin; two sisters, Bessie Parsons and Zina Ballard.

Surviving are her daughters, Linda Anderson and husband, Tony; Doris Coates and husband, Dennis; and Janice Ballard; her son, James Ballard and his wife, Pam; a sister, Daisy Davis of Mooresville; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2021 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverend Philip Wilson and Reverend Eddie Rice will officiate.  Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
