Obituary of Lorraine Buckner Atkins

BARNARDSVILLE – Lorraine Buckner Atkins, age 79, of Barnardsville, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 11, 2021.

Mrs. Atkins was born July 7, 1941 in Buncombe County to the late Preston and Ethel Rice Buckner; she was a resident of Buncombe County all of her life. Lorraine was formerly employed with Roses and The Fresh Market in Asheville.  She was a member of Barnardsville Baptist Church and  attended Barnardsville Church of God.    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Atkins who died in 2019; sister, Monelle Hyder; and two brothers, Lynn and David Buckner.

Surviving are her daughter, Kim Poore and husband Will; son, Bill Atkins and wife Lisa; granddaughter, Marissa Atkins; brother, Kenneth Buckner.

The family would like to express a special thanks to her nieces, Pat Evans, and Jennifer Kiger; caregivers, Becky Surrett, Kaylee Christian, and her hospice nurse, Angi White for all the love and care they gave.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2021 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverend Daniel Reid will officiate. Burial will follow in Maney Cemetery, Barnardsville.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the funeral home.

Per the NC Governor, masks are required. Those who choose, may listen to the service on their car radio by tuning into FM 87.7, while in the parking lot of the funeral home.
