Obituary of William Edwards Calloway

WEAVERVILLE – William “Bill” Edwards Calloway, age 80, of Weaverville, departed this earthly life and went home to be with Jesus on Monday, February 22, 2021.

 

A lifelong resident of Asheville, Bill served at the United States Postal Service for 30 years, the last 14 years as a postmaster, until his retirement in 1999.  He then worked at the Asheville Sears and Roebuck until the store closed.  He was an active member of Locust Grove Baptist Church and loved serving his church for God’s glory.

 

Surviving are his beloved wife, Gail Guffey Calloway; son, Michael K. Calloway and wife Sara of Fairview; daughter, Lynn Calloway Hager and husband Darren of Statesville; sister, Patricia Calloway Smart of Asheville; his beloved grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Ethan, Zach, Daniel, Rebecca and Josh.  He took great pride in his family and loved watching them grow.

 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Douglas and Frances Edwards Calloway; and two brothers, John and Richard Calloway.

 

His graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 in Locust Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Weaverville.

 

Per the NC Governor, masks are required.  For the safety of the family, social distancing  is requested.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill’s name, to Locust Grove Baptist Church, International Mission Fund, 305 Locust Grove Road, Weaverville, NC 28787 or Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC  28607.
