Obituary of Ricky Harkleroad

ASHEVILLE – David Ricky Harkleroad, age 61, of Asheville, died Thursday, March 25, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Ricky was born May 28, 1959 in Buncombe County. He was a simple man who enjoyed deer hunting, being on the lake in his bass boat or standing on the riverbank fishing, reading books, and spending time with his family.  He worked at NyPro Manufacturing.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Harkleroad.

Surviving is his mother, Elizabeth Harkleroad; wife, Angela Lynn Harkleroad; daughter, Dawn Dillingham and husband Derek; granddaughters, Laney, Kendal, Ayda, and Lexi Dillingham; sister, Lisa Gowing; brothers, Mike and Dean Harkleroad; nieces, Amanda Bruhn and Alyssa Bradley; nephews, Chris, Clint and Kyle Harkleroad, and Ross Gowing; stepsons, Michael Wayne and James Alan Jones; and best friend, Ricky Powell.

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2021 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Pastor Chad Ellege will officiate. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, Weaverville.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Sunday, prior to the funeral.

Per the NC Governor, masks are required. Those who choose, may listen to the service on their car radio by tuning into FM 87.7 while in the parking lot of the funeral home.
