Obituary of Derryl Boyd Ponder

WEAVERVILLE – Derryl Boyd Ponder, age 65, of Weaverville, died Monday, March 29, 2021.

 

Derryl was born August 13, 1955 in Buncombe County to the late Leonard and Jorene Edmonds Ponder; he was a resident of Buncombe County all of his life. Derryl retired from Brumit Restaurant Group.  He was a hard worker, and enjoyed helping anyone in need.  He was a member of the Vance Masonic Lodge #293 A.F. & A.M.  Derryl enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and loved the national champions, Alabama (Roll Tide).  He served two years in the US Air Force. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Jo Ponder Dillingham; sister-in-law, Joan Ponder, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Ponder.

 

Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Tami Lankford Ponder; a daughter, Tamatha Ponder; four sons, Tim Ponder and wife Tonya, Drew Ponder and wife Holly, Rhett Ponder and Waylon Ponder; two sisters, Jennifer Roberts and husband Lynn, and Wilma Forester and husband John; brother, Leland “Buddy” Ponder and twin brother, Terryl Ponder; brother-in-law, Johnny Dillingham; and five grandchildren, Tori, Jaxon, Eli, Lily and Kevin.

 

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2021 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverend Woody Dillingham will officiate.  Masonic Rites will be by the Vance Lodge.

 

The family will receive friends following the service as people exit, at the funeral home.

 

Per the NC Governor, masks are required. Those who choose, may listen to the service on their car radio by tuning into FM 87.7, while in the parking lot of the funeral home.
