Dear Traci and family,
I am so sad to hear of the passing of your sweet and precious mother. It was a joy getting to know her at Woodfin Elementary School after being with you at West Buncombe Elementary.
It is hard to describe what an influence she had on me just through our working together. Mrs. Shook was such a beautiful person on the inside and out, her love of Christ was evident in the way she lived. I loved her smile, it made the world full of sunshine. Describing her as God's loving servant is a perfect way to honor her - all of you are lucky to have had her in your lives. Mrs. Shook was humble and always full of goodness. I send you all my love and prayers.
God bless - Becky Lasher

I remember Mrs.Shook from Woodfin. I am now 38 and it just amazes me how time has flown by and you just expect your teachers to never age for some reason. I am saddened by her death but know she is living in a place now which we should long to be too. Prayers for the family.

Words are not good enough to describe her. She was my sister that I never had, my driver to all the girls choir camps,in an old tan van with a big tool box, belonging to Ray. Sometimes we just went home with them from church. It didn’t matter to them....the more the merrier. She sent Ray to comfort me after Jim passed away and I needed to learn how to ride a lawn mower. She sat with me after I had a hospital stay in the afternoons. We taught VBS together for years and then she came to Woodfin School to work. God is good when he keeps friends in your mist and around you. Angels Around Us like her! Jeanne and Aimee Stewart

Traci & family, Scott & family,
Your Mom was the sweetest & Godliest woman that we have ever known. I remember living beside her and she was always watching out for my boys and talking with them and was the best person in our lives at a time when we needed her. God placed us just in the right home. Loved seeing her at church and watching her share her "Love" for Jesus with all the children & adults as well. She will be missed by many, but God has gained a perfect angel. May He give comfort & peace as you mourn the loss of your sweet Mother & Grandmother. We love you all & will be praying for you during this hard time.
In Christ's Love,
Jim & Claudette

I’m so sorry for your loss, sending prayers & love to comfort in days ahead. I’m grateful to have met Barbara by having Katie in class. Both Katie and Andrew’s love of cooking and always willing to lend a helping hand came from their grandmother. Barbara ran over many coconut cakes and forgotten items over to my classroom and I’ve continued to enjoy Barbara kind words and sweet smile as part of my church family catching up on good recipes and family. She will be dearly missed. Praying for The Stewart’s, Shook’s and Worley’s in the difficult time.

I remember Barbara well from high school and Larry from elementary school. What a lovely friendly person she was with such a bright smile! Then I taught her daughter Traci, and we became reacquainted- also a lovely parent. In addition, I taught John and Katie and feel so much connection to this family. Her obituary is so well-written that it paints a great picture of a happy, contented life with God at the center. I am so sorry for the family’s loss and pray for peace and comfort.

Dear Family,
I don't know where to begin.
Barbara and I worked shoulder-to-shoulder for many years at Woodfin Elementary. I am sure it was a divine appointment for us to work together. Barbara was the best... not only in her work, but in the way she lived her life. Though we worked to get our jobs done each day, our bond grew into an invaluable friendship. We connected on many levels...our faith, our love of family and what must have been millions of stories about our children! Barbara was a constant. Few people have walked into my life with her strength and goodness. She made me want to be a better person. Her love for Jesus showed every single day and in every circumstance.
I could write volumes about her. You were blessed beyond measure to have her as the cornerstone of your family and I, to have her as my friend. I have no doubt that as she approached Heaven's gates, Jesus was wearing His biggest smile, His arms were reaching out a little further to welcome her home and the the angels were singing their loudest, because they saw that one of their best had finally arrived.
Great memories will serve as a great source of strength for the future, so keep them close.
Love,
Janet
