Lillian Dicus

Obituary of Lillian Leona Sluder Dicus

ASHEVILLE – Lillian Leona Sluder Dicus, 97, of Asheville passed away peacefully on July 25th, 2021.  She was a toe-headed farm girl raised along with her 7 brothers and sisters in Alexander, NC by her parents, Charles Ezra and Annie Leona Hawkins Sluder.  Lillian graduated from West Buncombe High School in 1941.  She was married to her loving husband Melvin Vernon Dicus for 39 years until his passing in 1985.  Lillian was the epicenter and safe harbor for her large family.  She was always ready with an amazing home-made meal, unconditional love, encouraging words, or a colorful joke.   When not hanging out with her family Lillian loved to spend her time tending her amazing vegetable garden, impressive flower gardens and watching the many varieties of bird that visited her back porch.  She attended church on Sundays at her dining room table surrounded by family and pots of coffee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and son-in law Mike Capps.

She is survived by her five children: Dianne (Darlene Cluett) Dicus, Mike (Susie) Dicus, Kathy Capps, Lisa (Marty) Christiansen and Charlie (Virginia Brittain) Dicus all of Asheville; 11 grandchildren, Anna Lynn (Blaque Fowler) Holleman, Marcie Dicus, Jodie Dicus, Mark (Heather) Dicus, Dylan (Kate) Dicus, Matt (Jennifer) Capps, Christopher (Kristin) Capps, Lee (Jim) Carroll, Lauren Christiansen, Jordan (Dacia) Dicus, and William Dicus; 22 great-grandchildren, Hannah Boersma, Ethan, Evan and Halei Gillis, Kylei Polk, Waylon, Leona, Ellie and Ty Dicus, Wells, Caroline, Maddie and Beckham Capps, Ezra, Lillian, and Gus Carroll, Shelby, CJ, Corey, Cameron, Faith and Bella Dicus; and one great-great grandchild expected in December.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville.
