Obituary of Charles Allan Herndon

WEAVERVILLE - Charles Allan Herndon, age 70, passed away on August 16, 2021 in Asheville, NC.  The family is grateful for the nurses and doctors at Mission who provided compassionate care during his illness and passing.

Charles was born on August 29, 1950 in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Independence Senior High School in Charlotte in 1968, and UNC Charlotte in 1975 with a degree in Political Science. In his career, he held positions in Charlotte, Riegelwood, Weaverville, and Asheville, NC.

Charles was a great family man and a loving father. He married Gwendolynn Kay Miller in 1979, and the couple had two wonderful children together.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Herndon, Jr. and his mother, Dorothy Perkins Herndon of Charlotte NC., and his daughter, Karen Elizabeth Herndon, of Weaverville, NC.

Charles is survived by his wife Gwendolynn M. Herndon of Weaverville, NC, his daughter, Lindsey Herndon Coffey (Caleb), of Valdese, NC, his brothers Richard and Gary, of Elizabethtown, NC, and Andrew (Denise) and their children Amelia and Michelle of Mint Hill, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30PM on Thursday, August 19, 2021 in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Nick McDonald officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30PM prior to the service.

The family respectfully asks that anyone attending the receiving of friends and/or the memorial service please wear a mask or face covering for the safety of everyone.
