Thanksgiving for our dear friend Greg Miller - from Don & Betsy White
Betsy and I have known and loved Greg for over 45 years - from our days together in the UCLA Bible Study at Dykstra Hall in the mid-seventies. Betsy and Shirley were roommates as well as dear friends. Betsy was part of Greg & Shirley's wedding, and Greg played both the piano and organ at our wedding. He was famous for doing double- and triple-duty at church throughout his entire life. He gave us a special surprise at our wedding by playing Ave Maria during the preludes in honor of Betsy’s Catholic family.
We will never forget the immeasurable joy that Greg displayed when his first child Sarah entered our world. This was of course matched with Stephen and Jim. He immensely loved Shirley, Sarah, Stephen, Jim, their spouses and all of their children. We know that he wanted to cling to this life for the sake of his beloved family.
Our families grew up together. We both moved around the country and we made every effort to stay connected and keep our 6 children connected as they grew. Greg’s love of both nature and God’s word were a priceless addition to our lives. And we owe an eternal debt of gratitude for teaching us the song “Teddy Bears’ Picnic”! He had an immense capacity for joy and delight in the simple things of life. We continue to love Sarah, Stephen and Jim and remain committed to love them and their spouses and the 9 grandchildren they bestowed upon Greg and Shirley.
Greg loved us throughout our lives together. He blessed us with music, theological discussions, and advice. When my mother was older, and presented some challenges, he drew on his knowledge and experience to provide me with some great direction and advice.
We thank the Lord for the spiritual strength present in Greg. This is evident in the myriad of ways God used him to minister to so many over the decades. We thank God for Greg’s theological knowledge, for his love and commitment to God and to His people, for the example he has set in loving his family, and for his his steadfast love for us and our family. And then we cannot forget his music: guitar, piano, voice, but oh how we loved when he played the organ. We thank God for the many gifts He gave him - especially the gift(s) of music!
We look forward to the day that we will be reunited with Greg - according to the power and love of our blessed Savior Jesus Christ.

Fr. Greg was by far one of the most influential people in our life. And one of the most beloved as well. I found these photos last night and thought everyone would love to see them. Kevin lived with him and Shirley during college, he taught our confirmation class, married us, presented Kevin for Holy Orders, and baptized our first son. Here is a picture of him with baby Alban in 2018 and one of our hands wrapped in his stole at our wedding in 2015. We love you so, Fr. Greg (and Shirley!)

Father Greg was a very kind colleague and brother in Christ whom I shall miss until by God’s grace I see him again. Father Greg was the closest priest to me over the mountains when I was the vicar of Saint Peter the Apostle Anglican Church in Kingsport Tennessee. The last time I saw Father Greg was when he attended my Lenten Quiet Day at Saint Peter the Apostle Anglican Church. I recall his gifts in music when he compiled the Service of Lessons and Carols for Christmas at Saint Matthew’s Anglican Church, to which he invited me to read one of the lessons. His selection of hymns and carols reflected his knowledge of how comforting church music was because of the doctrine contained in the words of the hymns and carols. This picture of Father Greg showing his warm smile is a reflection of his soul which drew people to him who would see Jesus in him. Well done thou good and faithful servant of Word and Sacrament Ministry.
