I did not know Arvil Freeman for very long or very well, due to the travelling nature of my employment and eventual re-location
back to the flatlands, but he gave me my very first fiddle lessons. Arvil knew what he was about, and what he was about,
in large part, was making music. He was able to communicate a sense of integrity and instill a sense of confidence in me
that, "if you really want to do this, you can do it." That was very important to a young man in the 1970s whose fiddler grandfather
had never been allowed to bring his fiddle when he came to visit our family. So, Arvil, you have my everlasting thanks for being
my first guide on a musical journey that has enriched me throughout all of life's peaks and valleys. Despite our short acquaintance, I feel a great sorrow at your passing. May God comfort your family and all those who were fortunate enough
to call you "friend."
David Bradshaw, Wendell, N.C.

RIP Arvil. We played many a show together over the past almost 50 years. You will always be remembered for your great musicianship, and the scores of students you helped become professional musicians (and those who just learned how to enjoy playing music.)That's what it's all about. . . . .So long, Pal.

Our family was saddened by the loss of a dear friend, Arvil.
Arvil was a true mountain man ... a man of integrity!
The friendship began when our paths met at Bill Stanley's BBQ and Bluegrass and brewed deep for all the years since.
May peace surround the Freeman family from your friends, The Bill Stanley Family

I will never forget the Thursdays I spent with Arvil playing fiddle and exchanging memories of the "old days". He was generous with his time and truly loved his students. I will miss him more than words can say. Jim Lewis

Condolences to all the Freeman family.
Old time music has lost an icon in the passing of Arvil. He was a master of his craft. I first heard him at the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in the 60’s and later on regularly at Bill Stanley’s Blue Grace and BBQ. I believe he and Bard Ray were two of the best to ever play traditional mountain music. I’m glad Arvil saw a need pass his craft on to future generations. Perhaps one of his students will rise the his level. He will be missed by all that knew his music.
Prayers are with his family at this time.

Dear Freeman Family,
Arvil was the best of the best! His sense of humor kept me in stitches. He was the kind of person that when you left the conversation you left with a smile and a laugh. His fiddle legacy speaks for itself and his influence will be heard for decades to come. I will truly miss him!
Sincerest condolences,
Vickie Hensley-King
