Obituary of Jack Edwin Williamson

ASHEVILLE - Jack Edwin Williamson, ninety-seven, of Asheville passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022, after an extended illness.

Jack is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Kay Williamson, two children: Edwin Williamson (Melissa Clemens) of Kingsport, Tennessee and   Lisa Johnson (Brad Honnold) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and two grandchildren: Peyton Johnson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Cooper Williamson of Asheville, North Carolina.

He was the youngest of six children and was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cora Williamson, four brothers: Sherman, Ralph, Harry and Bill Williamson, and one sister, Bonnie King.

Jack was born in Asheville on January 26, 1925, at the old Biltmore Hospital. He grew up in West Asheville and graduated from Lee Edwards High School and served three years in Army Air Corps Intelligence during World War II.

Following his military service, he and his brother, Bill, started a grocery business on Liberty Street in Asheville in 1946. They later owned and operated Stoney Knob Supermarket and Candler Market. He retired in 1997 after fifty-one years in business.  Williamson Brothers Sausage is still remembered fondly by many in the area today.

Jack was an active member of Central United Methodist Church. He served as president of the Aston Park Hospital and chairman of the building committee for the Aston Park Healthcare Center. He was a long-time member of the Country Club of Asheville and loved spending time on the golf course with his friends.  He was also a longtime fan of University of Tennessee football, having season tickets for more than 40 years.

A memorial service will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 19 at 2 pm, with visitation beginning at 1 pm.  The family will later have a private graveside service. 

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff at Brooks-Howell Home in Asheville for delivering compassionate care to Jack for the past eleven months.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to Central United Methodist Church.
