Obituary of Jessie Edwards Hurst

ALEXANDER – Jessie Edwards Hurst, age 79, of Alexander, passed away peacefully early Sunday, February 20, 2022, at her home.

Mrs. Hurst was born December 19, 1942, in Buncombe County to the late Eva Griffin and Roy Lee Edwards, Sr.; she was a resident of Buncombe County all of her life. Jessie worked at Rose’s Department Store in the 80’s and 90’s, then moved to Perfection Gear and did payroll.  During her retirement, she was a home health caregiver.  She loved watching reruns of old game shows. She played piano at church for 60 years; loved gardening, flowers, and feeding her birds. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Hilliard Eugene Hurst who passed away in 2001; and siblings, Ruth Rhodes; Charles Edwards, Arnold Edwards, Mildred Yarborough, Edith Mace and R. L. Edwards.

Surviving are her three daughters, Darla Biddix and husband Johnny, Damito Huffman and husband Bobby, and Jaime Tweed and husband John; a sister, Hattie Harris and husband Bob; grandchildren, Felicia Huffman, Kimberly Roberts and husband Trenton, John Barrett Biddix, Brent, Elizabeth, Stephanie, and Rebecca Tweed; great grandchildren, Carter, Aubree and Meredith; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Ridgeview Baptist Church, Alexander. Reverend Philip Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A receiving of friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
