Dear Barbara,
Your friendship has always been a comfort and joy . I grew up in Brookline, my parents and family shared a lifelong bond over the years. Your last place to call home was coincidentally not far from where I ended up living and my mom as well . My mother Sheila and you were life long girlfriends shared stories raising families, both being married to Brookline PD men. Your bonds were strong and no matter the time in between phone calls and get togethers it was as if no time had passed. I admired your love for life , family , grandchildren & great grandchildren, music, history traveling and meeting people. Out visits were never enough time but yet enjoyedm each and every moment shared.
The last years we’re not so kind to you but I don’t remember you ever complaining about health issues just that fact that your life style was altered due to health. I feel confident a woman as lively and lovely as you will start another chapter with Dick. Please remember to give my dad the tightest hug from me and keep them laughing until I see you all again. Much love Barbara xo

You will be missed, aunt Barbara. Those Burke girls were so funny, you and Margie were great sisters to my dad! Thanks for the times when we were older kids and you let us Burke boys hang out with you at York Beach! Such a sharp lady with a hell of an Irish wit.

Dearest Mom, I will miss you always. All the coffee and conversations we’d had over the years, the encouragement, and the humor. I’ll remember you for that. You and dad being so close when the girls were little and sharing in their achievements big and small meant the world to me. Thank you for the arts and crafts, the ice cream cones at the Creamery, and the endless fun with the kids in the backyard especially in summer. I’ll miss your laugh most of all. Rest In peace, love Jeannie

Thank you, Nana, for bringing me to school the first day of kindergarten; that was some scary shit -thanks for the heads-up before we walked around the corner. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. Thank you for making me that strawberry and whipped cream cake on my 5th birthday, or whichever one it was. Also, thank you for instilling in me good taste in black & white old movies, introducing me to Masterpiece Theater, and writers like Emily Bronte and Jane Austin. Thank you for encouraging me to go to college and for paying my application fees (I had enough for one application, but not all three). Also for suggesting we go to Cafe Driade so I actually filled out the forms, finished my essay, and put them in the mailbox that same day just in time for the deadlines. Also, thank you for having those stamps handy, without which I definitely wouldn't have sent them on my own. Thank you for buying us oil paints back in 1999- it was a big deal for Eireann and I both to have those, and for your overuse of compliments in general- specifically the adjective "capable" comes to mind. Also, thank you again, for encouraging me to apply for that fellowship my junior year; I wouldn't have got to go to the UK and Ireland otherwise and that was big. Thanks for your hilarious sense of humor- although a bit dark at times- and the good conversations we shared at Edna's, Mosaic Cafe, Tupelo Honey, and Another Broken Egg, to name a few of our favorites, these last ten years...well eight years with the pandemic. Thank you for my Irishness and for giving my son your beautiful, starburst eyes. I'm going to miss you, but I know you felt pretty much done here and over it all since your stroke six years ago. You require excitement and change; I understand. I'm glad we made it up to Boston one last time. I know you are ready for a new adventure and I'm so excited for you! Love, Bonnie

To all of the Trahon Family ,I had the utmost respect for this beautiful woman and incredibly unique human being, Barbara was admired, loved and will be missed by many folks. Barbara and Dick were my parents dearest (Sheila &Al Garland ) and life long friends . My Dad and Dick were Brookline PD / Saint Mary’s Church , committed guys , Barbara and my Mom Sheila were the wives that stood by them. I vividly remember my mom and Barbara talking for hours and giggling away!! I too loved gabbing with Barbara!! She had such a young spirit and brilliant sense of humor . She truly was an inspiration for me in my younger years ! I always thought to myself that is “One cool Lady!!” Rest in eternal Peace Barbara.
With Love and my deepest Condolences
Susan G.

Nana, you were the greatest “Nana” of all time. You were my Angel. You always found a way to laugh at just about anything. I’ll never forget the way you would light up whenever I would come to visit, your humming, singing, and laughter will always stay in my mind and heart.
One of my favorite memories was when I didn’t want to go to school when I was very small, so you and I rode the train to Boston to check out all of the museums, went out for lunch, you bought me a beautiful porcelain doll, and there was even a parade. :)
Thank you for always being so warm and understanding, you always remembered my birthday, and took the time to write me a sweet card- just to make me feel so special and loved. I’ll always love you, and I’ll never forget the smell of sautéed onions and beef, baked bread, and instant coffee :) the bubble gum, your sneezes, and your beautiful smile. I remember you holding me in your rocking chair when I was very little, and I would fall asleep on your shoulder to your sweet voice. Forever grateful for you…Rest In Peace you Wonderful soul.
