Obituary of Melzar Lee Harwood

WEAVERVILLE – Melzar L. Harwood, age 78 of Weaverville went to be with his Savior and Lord Thursday, March 10, 2022.

He was the son of the late Aaron C. Harwood and Ruby B. Harwood. 

He was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoy hunting.  Mr. Harwood was a longtime member of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church and was a kind-hearted, humble man.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Harwood was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald A. Harwood.

Mr. Harwood is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dora Little Harwood; a son, Aaron Lee Harwood and wife Denice; and a brother, Leonard C. Harwood and his wife Jean.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Mt Sheba Baptist Church, 870 New Stock Road, Weaverville, NC. Rev. Steve Rhinehart will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Sheba Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
