Obituary of Edna N. Allen

BARNARDSVILLE – Edna N. Allen, age 97, of Barnardsville, ran her race and crossed the finish line into Heaven on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

Mrs. Allen was born March 11, 1925 in Buncombe County to the late Garfer Roscoe and Sallie Ballard Burrell.  She was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She worked at Beacon Manufacturing during WWII, and later at E.V. Allen Greenhouses.

Even in her later years, Mrs. Allen was spirited and full of energy and giggles, walking every day. Never slowing down, she shared her love of gardening, coffee with Little Debbie cakes and cooking.  She could often be found doing yard work, and raking leaves as soon as they had fallen.   Most important to her was her family and her church family, Barnardsville Baptist Church.  She was surrounded by them all the time. 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Stonewall J. Allen, who died in 1998; sons, James Allen and his wife Univee, and Harold Allen; brothers, Everette Roscoe Burrell, Harry Lee Burrell, Howard Baxter “Bromo” Burrell, Henry Ray Burrell, and Roy Lee Burrell; and sisters, Essie Mae Burrell, Estelle Eleanor Burrell, Edith Daphene Burrell, Elizabeth Burrell, and Ethel Marie Burrell.

Mrs. Allen is survived by sons, Warren Allen and wife Linda, Larry Dean Allen, and Peter Allen and wife Stacey; grandchildren, Michael Allen (Chris), Jackie Pond (David), Colt Allen, Cassidy Patterson (Jordan) and Lauren Allen; great-grandchildren, Kiefer Bumby (Aja), Braxton Allen (Tonia), Elora Allen, Jessica Pond, and Mason Allen; great-great-grandchildren, Annabell Allen, Lily Allen, Samuel Allen, Arthur Bumby, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1 at Barnardsville Baptist Church, 1639 Barnardsville Highway, Barnardsville, NC.  The Reverends Fred Miller and Steve Ackerman will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. also at the church. Burial will follow the service at Whitaker Cemetery in Barnardsville.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Barnardsville Baptist Church are welcomed at PO Box 8, Barnardsville, NC 28709.
