Obituary of Larry Massey

WEAVERVILLE – Larry Massey, 74, passed away on April 18, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Massey was born December 2, 1947 and was a resident of Buncombe County most of his life.  He was the son of the late George and Edna Johnson Massey and was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Hensley and son Chris Massey.  Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and retired from Overnite Transportation in 2003 with 30 years of service.  He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and animals.

 

Surviving is his wife of 52 years Vera Ray Massey; two daughters, Pam McCurry and husband Keith and Shelia Massey; sisters Linda Edwards, Pat Coker and Susan Proffitt; brother Stevie Massey; four grandchildren, J. T. and Katlyn Hopps, Lucas and Colton McCurry; and great granddaughter Maevery Sloan.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, Weaverville.  Reverend Stevie Massey and Reverend Dustin Grooms will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Sheba Baptist Church Cemetery, Weaverville.

 

Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
