Obituary of Ray Willis

WEAVERVILLE - Richard R. Willis passed away on Friday, May 27th at his home. He was born January 31, 1946, and was raised in Weaverville, NC.

 

He graduated from North Buncombe High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably in Vietnam and was an advocate for all war veterans.

 

After being discharged he worked on various oil well rigs and owned the Willis Gulf Station in Weaverville, NC.

 

He is survived by the love of his life, Susan Troitino Willis; his sister, Linda Collins from Norfolk, Virginia; and two loving daughters, Christina Willis from Weaverville, NC and Ali Willis Shuler and husband Jeramy from Bryson City, NC. He worshipped his four grandchildren, his two great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Lulu.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Nelle Bradley and Bill Willis; his grandparents, Della Mae Gosnel and Plumer Bradley who raised Ray and his siblings; his brothers, Russell, Larry and Bobby and his loving dog, Katie.

 

He will be greatly missed and was loved by many friends.

 

The family will have a celebration of Ray’s life on Thursday, June 2nd from 5-7 pm at The Flat Creek Tavern and then from 7-9 pm at T Birds. Music will be provided and come with stories as we raise a glass in memory of “Ray Ray” Willis.
