Obituary of Opal Robinson Garland

WOODFIN – Opal Robinson Garland, age 88, of Woodfin died Friday, June 17, 2022.

Mrs. Garland was born February 11, 1934 in Yancey County to the late Calvin and Laura Bailey Robinson; she was a resident of Buncombe County since the early 1960’s. She and her husband owned and operated the Stone House Clothing Store and Garland’s Green House in Woodfin for many years. Opal was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Dewitt “Bud” Garland to whom she was married 62 years; daughter, Kitty Garland Medford and grandson, Nicholas Medford.

Surviving are her son, Mike Garland and wife Janice; son-in-law, Jim Medford; sisters, Lavonne Harris and (Keith) and Johnie Gouge; brother, Hobert Robinson and (Annette); grandchildren, Meredith Medford and (Adam) and Megan Medford and (Aaron); great granddaughter, Harlow Cody and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Garland’s memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 20, 2022, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Jim McCoy will officiate.
