Obituary of Helen Melvin Potts
Helen Melvin Potts, age 89, passed away at her residence on Friday, July 1, 2022 on her 73rd wedding anniversary. She and Daddy loved celebrating their day and the 4th. What a joyful reunion I am sure they had!
Mrs. Potts was born October 19, 1932, in Bristol, VA to the late George Washington Melvin, Jr. and Irene Humphrey Melvin. She lived most her life in Buncombe County and was the wife of the late Joe Lee Potts, Sr., who passed away in 2005. Mrs. Potts was also preceded in death by her siblings, William Melvin and Loretta Gentry.
She loved feeding birds and squirrels, quilting, embroidery and feeding her family. She always said food tasted better with children at the table.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Y. Potts of Weaverville; sons, Joseph Potts, Jr. and wife Annette of Mills River, and Timothy Potts of Weaverville; grandchildren, Brandi Mullinax and husband Darren, Melodie Potts Rosevear and husband Sam, and Tiffany Cole and fiancé Joe Pittman; great-grandchildren Brittany, Gage, Megan and Harrison; and several nieces and nephews that were very dear to Mrs. Potts.
Her funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Compassionate Care of Yancey County, 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714, and wishes to express sincere gratitude for the wonderful care that they provided.
